Wieloetapowy plan przewiduje w pierwszej kolejno\u015bci budow\u0119 36-hektarowej platformy przylegaj\u0105cej do terminalu T1. Nast\u0119pnie zostanie wybudowane 717-metrowe nabrze\u017ce o g\u0142\u0119boko\u015bci wody 17,5 metra. W ramach inwestycji powstanie 7 nowych kontenerowych suwnic bramowych oraz dodatkowe 20 automatycznych suwnic RMG montowanych na szynach. Prace budowlane b\u0119d\u0105 prowadzone przez polsk\u0105 grup\u0119 budowlan\u0105 Budimex oraz firm\u0119 specjalizuj\u0105c\u0105 si\u0119 w pog\u0142\u0119bianiu dna morskiego, Dredging International NV. Warto\u015b\u0107 inwestycji wynosi oko\u0142o 450 mln euro. Po rozbudowie mo\u017cliwo\u015bci prze\u0142adunkowe portu kontenerowego wzrosn\u0105 o 1,7 mln kontener\u00f3w do 4,5 mln TEU. PSA, jako operator portu kontenerowego, zak\u0142ada, \u017ce trzeci terminal stworzy podstawy do konkurowania z du\u017cymi portami kontenerowymi, takimi jak Rotterdam czy Hamburg w Europie, a port w Gda\u0144sku b\u0119dzie obs\u0142ugiwa\u0142 nie tylko polski rynek, ale ca\u0142y region.  <\/p>\n<p>Port kontenerowy zosta\u0142 otwarty 15 lat temu, a jego pojemno\u015b\u0107 wynosi\u0142a w\u00f3wczas zaledwie 500 tys. TEU. Dzi\u0119ki posiadanym obecnie dw\u00f3m nabrze\u017com, w ubieg\u0142ym roku prze\u0142adowa\u0142 2,09 mln TEU. W\u0142a\u015bcicielami s\u0105 PSA International (40 proc.), kt\u00f3ra prowadzi tak\u017ce najwi\u0119kszy na \u015bwiecie port kontenerowy w Singapurze, fundusz IFM Global Infrastructure Fund (30 proc.) oraz pa\u0144stwowy fundusz inwestycyjny PFR (30 proc.). <\/p>\n<p><em>*TEU (twenty-feet equivalent unit)<br \/>\nJednostka miary odpowiadaj\u0105ca pojemno\u015bci; u\u017cywana w odniesieniu do port\u00f3w i statk\u00f3w kontenerowych. Jest ona r\u00f3wnowa\u017cna obj\u0119to\u015bci kontenera ISO o d\u0142ugo\u015bci 20 st\u00f3p.
