In October 2024, Poland recorded the lowest number of registered unemployed individuals since statistics began in 1990. The number of people without work was 767.100, down 2,500 compared to September 2024 and 3,300 from the same period last year. Such low unemployment indicates the stability of the labor market, despite local economic challenges.
Estimated by the Ministry of Family, Labor, and Social Policy, the registered unemployment rate remained at 5%, the same as in October 2023. Nonetheless, regional data show significant variations in the labor market situation across different voivodeships. The lowest rate was recorded in Greater Poland (3%), while in the Subcarpathian Voivodeship it was 8.4%. Despite challenges such as the effects of natural disasters, a noticeable trend of improvement is evident – in 21 out of 43 counties affected by disaster status, the unemployment rate fell, and it remained unchanged in 11.
According to Eurostat data from September 2024, Poland remains one of the leaders in Europe in terms of low unemployment levels. The unemployment rate calculated according to EU methodology was 2.9%, second only to the Czech Republic (2.8%). In comparison, the average for EU countries was 5.9%, and for the Eurozone, it was 6.3%. The highest rates were recorded in Spain, where unemployment reached 11.2%.
October 2024 will be remembered as the month with the lowest number of registered unemployed in over three decades. Stable unemployment rates, both at the national and European level, indicate the solid condition of the Polish labor market. However, in order to maintain this favorable situation, continued support for regions facing challenges and the adaptation of policies to changing economic realities will be necessary.
